We're aware of it. It doesn't go away; it's a part of us. You integrate it and move on. Usually we learn the source of it & avoid that as much as we can. We don't like wasting time or energy on things we can't change. And yeah, emotions make you do dumb things, so we try to keep them in check.

Doesn’t mean it doesn’t deeply affect you. My GenX exes, while I am still on very good terms with them, were extremely dismissive avoidant. You got too close or got them too vulnerable, they almost immediately shut down and/or freak out. Then they went back to believing everything was a-okay.
