a point i made a few weeks ago and a point i will make again is that the mulligan trump gets for covid makes absolutely no sense. an acute crisis like a pandemic is, as lord businessman notes, the whole reason we have a singular executive! the fact that he fucked up should be dispositive!

Quite literally the worst response in the world relative to means

I agree with you however the consensus opinion on the right/some independents is that covid was blown way out of proportion in hindsight and was not a big deal/hoax. Just judging what I hear from more right inclinded people I know

Related: Bush's mulligan for 9/11. People sincerely didn't see the absurdity of "Bush kept us safe (with the notable exception of the worst terrorist attack ever on US soil)."

Trump thinks that governance is exclusively the imposition of his will. Too many agree.

I feel like participating in the debate while secretly having COVID, apparently in a plot to kill Biden, was among the worst things heā€™s ever done

A strange thing with Trump is when he screws up his job, no one holds it against him because heā€™s not a politician, just an expression of real American heartland diner voices.

"It's not fair to judge him for COVID. How could anyone have seen this coming?" ...That's why it's called an emergency and we've built multiple agencies and command structures for exactly that need for decisive action in the face of the unexpected.

"Neville Chamberlain would have been a great prime minister if he didn't have to deal with that whole Hitler thing!"

Epidemiologists estimate Trumpā€™s mishandling of the pandemic cost 300,000-400,000 lives. That means Trump killed more Americans than any person in history not named Jefferson Davis. We do not talk about this nearly enough.

Come on now. His presidency was cruising along just fine until he faced a crisis.
