alito's whole line there presupposes that trump's refusal to leave was *normal* and an extraordinary display of contempt for the constitution!
I didn't hear it quite that way. What I heard was an expectation that future presidents would, if they couldn't one way or another be immune from prosecution, refuse to leave. I guess the implication is that every president commits crimes and so they would all be prosecutable.
Can't say Sam Alito isn't achieving his life's goal of getting revenge on all the libs who hated him in law school.
This is a serious question, mind, but does anyone actually believe that Alito is making his argument in good faith? I mean, I can’t see how that’s possible, but people still act like they do believe this. Am I missing something?
Sounds like they're gonna gut the 22nd amendment while they're at it.
Alito, eyes practically welling up with tears, wondered if we undermine a "stable democracy" if we didn't allow presidents to leave office in peace.
They genuinely think elections as a means of allocating power are grubby and uncouth.
"Your honor, is it not normal for a child to get upset when they're told that the party is over and they have to leave? Why would you deny this man, our lovely little boy, his basic human 6 year old emotions?"
Thomas bringing up Operation Mongoose and Alito bringing up Japanese Internment and asking, ‘what about these things? Could you prosecute a president for these things?’ Don’t tempt me with a good time.
