What a journey! 10 years ago almost 40% of UK electricity was from coal. Today the UK's last remaining coal-fired power station is Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire, England, which is scheduled to close on September 30, 2024.
I had a tour of it when I was 10 years old. NGL I was pretty bored. nothing quite like a cooling tower though, I hope they keep them.
Margaret thatcher wins. Unfortunately
One of the telling things about that graph is how quickly the market began to respond once the government announced the phasing out. Almost overnight, the demand for thermal coal fell off a cliff edge as coal-fired stations saw the writing on the wall and started to close.
that's all well and good. but please lets not ignore what Drax Power plant (the largest ex-coal now biomass power station in the UK) has been burning.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/science...
The owner of the UK's biggest power station, Drax, is cutting down key forests in Canada.
It can be done! Even with billionaires fighting it and lying thru their teeth!
Congratulations!
Hey man 👨🏻 Yes America United States announced ex-brazil United Kingdom 🇬🇧
What did they replace it with?
I know Ratcliffe! I used to go fix the weighbridge IT system, which would regularly glitch and break, for that and the other coal fired stations back at the turn of the century.
