The Corpse Exhibition by Hassan Blasim - Borges in Iraq after the American invasion Kaputt by Curzio Malaparte - astonishing imagery and horror. WW2 from the perspective of an exiled Italian journalist covering the war for the Italian fascists.
I do recommend it. It's a little dry, but there's a lot of info in it, neat stuff. It's survived several library culls.
Ongs Hat... wow, that takes me back. You're totally right, early internet, '97, and I run across those pages, had no idea what I was looking at. And a couple of years ago, I ran across the book Legend Tripping, about Ongs Hat.
Or a Timmy Olsen mustache...
Ken Russell photo of the Teddy Girl? He did a great series of photos of them. I think it was called Bomb Site Beauties?
I think it's based on a novel? I seem to remember that title. Soviet literature?
Good review. Got me to buy the book. Waiting for it to be delivered. Looking forward to it. Thanks!
Thank you for that link! Which includes the phrase "a squishy piece of delicious, nutritious muscle"
The Dreadful History and Judgement of God on Thomas Müntzer: The Life and Times of an Early German Revolutionary By Andrew Drummond Really well written and researched. Strong narrative history with good historical background. #bookssky#nonfiction#history#protestantreformation
I think that is right thing to do.
