Since her color is such a nice, subtle variegation, for some reason the first name that came to mind was "Surreptition." Sounds like a good "mysterious" horse name, and could be called Surrey for short....
Yeah, I know they're a chain, just saying they're the only thing that purports to be a diner in this area now (not counting IHOP or Denny's because eh, they're really not.) I mean, Waffle House has a diner look & feel I guess, but some of them seem to take the nickname "greasy spoon" too literally.
That's nice to hear - we used to have one here south of Houston which was a definite 50s retro place, but they went out of business. Since then, the only one we have just opened this year, called the Black Bear Diner, but it's more of a casual restaurant with a lunch counter that has about 5 stools.
The weird thing is, the only true "traditional" diners I can think of off the top of my head are sort of throwback places trying to capitalize on the retro appeal. Or Waffle House, which just doesn't give a damn anymore.
Immediate FOLLOW for anyone who tosses down a phrase with the alliterative allure of "performative as pejorative" in casual discourse! 😁
I'll never be able to shake the feeling that even in real life it looks JUST like a car from the early days of CD-ROM gaming, where the textures were bad or just couldn't render properly. Also, the first one I saw was glossy black, so it looked like the monolith in 2001. Just... not full of stars.
Wow, okay, I'm not sure what's funnier - this post, or the fact that somehow I spoofed this same book before seeing yours! What are the odds??
