Simply put, the illustrations were not drawn to be flipped by the original artist. Proportions will look off, sound effects are usually illustrated in vs put in after so they get flipped with the art and the "flow" of panel to panel reading can be inhibited as the layouts don't work as well reversed
It's to keep the art intact. The illustrations were really meant to be seen in their original orientation. Flipping it can make layouts, panel transitions, captions, etc even harder to parse.
