Telegraph article: "The OBR found that the average migrant worker pays more in tax than they receive in public services throughout their lives compared to British-born workers." The headline:
Telegraph isn’t even good enough for me to wipe my butt with it.
Question about methods here. Is the implicit assumption in these study that less-skilled migrants workers' wages equal marginal product, so individuals' tax revenues and public spending can be netted out? Is this a fair assumption?
And the Govt happily takes* their taxes.
Ignoring the Telegraph for a moment... isn't that a given since most immigrants will arrive as adults, missing out on 18+ years of state funded health, child care and education? It's like saying if you turn up late for a gig, you hear less of the support act.
It is, after all, the Torygraph, not noted for truth.
OBR does *not* address question of *how many* migrants are "average", "low-paid" [<50% of average], "high-paid" [>130%], although both LFS and HMRC data (see our recent research) suggest there are more "high-paid" than "low-paid". migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/co...
