I know the public aren't keen on Labour either. But I'm trying to think about a comparison to describe the derision each party receives. Labour looks like a guy with mustard on his tie, but the Tories still look like a guy who's shat his pants.

PMQs has the effect of revealing how irrelevant these Labour mini-scandals. Sunak makes a weak joke about Sue Gray and employment rights. Starmer just has to repeat “you guys left us a steaming car crash” six times.

Wish journalists would stop describing Milton as a once-in-a-generation hurricane. It's not going to stay once-in-a-generation for long

I'm not saying some of this doesn't have a bearing on where Starmer's premiership goes next - it's just the portentous way it's written. Years of reporting on Johnson and Truss has made Westminster write portentous guff about office sniping.

By all means write about how Downing Street is under-powered and over-stretched (like @samfr.bsky.social ) has done. But this is an article about the seating chart in Downing St and its deeper meaning for Starmer's project. Journalists have too much time on their hands.

I’m genuinely fascinated by the extent of fascination with the whole Sue Grey story. UK journalists seem to bother with v. little else. Who cares about what’s going on in the world, as long as you are an insider on who is up or down in Westminster? Honestly.
