The thing that ChatGPT is teaching me is that it doesn’t matter what people think their environmental values or labor rights politics are; the second they get attached to a stupid, comfortable toy, they will fight for it tooth and nail, even in the face of contrary evidence or morals

In a larger group I said, as a creative in sustainability, I didn't support a game bc it uses AI art -- profiting from theft from creatives and using an energy-intensive process. The response I got was pretty much "I don't care about the damage as long as the game is good." Eff me, right

Precisely what the techbros relied upon to justify their immoral and unethical theft of data. #BreakUpBigTech#RegulateAI#SupportRealArtists

I have heard many coworkers admit to using it which made me realize how widespread it really was and I was just flabbergasted

The Venn diagram of people who defend golf courses and AI might be a near perfect circle.

I think there are also so many big corporations in on it so they have to find use cases, and public ones. Apparently it has helped a lot in processing medical trial results but that isn’t as public or presumably mass usage enough to recoup their investment so we get crap art and duff scripts

Facing this with my workplace right now. People who would describe themselves as worried about climate change and labor rights twisting themselves into pretzels to justify using the plagiarism engine. This thing can't die soon enough.

When NFTs were huge, one of the main pushbacks artists had was people were burning through thousands of watts and computer parts for...pictures. People were killing the environment at unprecedented speeds and techbros replied with 'you just don't get it'. It's so so exhausting doing it again.
