Oh absolutely. I don't like love island or keeping up with the cardassians but the world is kind of horrible and if some mindless entertainment blocks that out for a bit go for it. Hell take the Reacher TV series, not high art but a decent entertaining bunch of action nonsense.

No you see it is scientific because the flatness of the earth means everyone gets the same sunlight (?????) And it definitely isn't racist. Except somehow it would mean everyone was conveniently white because science, in your series with magic rings and wizards.

Of course the other and sadly more common things is people angry that the casts are less pale and male but with enough self awareness to know the definitely won't be taken seriously if they say that.

I think a lot of it is "stop enjoying the thing that I don't like" hence the push to make things objectively bad and argue with anyone who enjoys them. I don't like many prestige dramas, doesn't mean they are bad, just not for me.

My annoyance with all of this is that now calling out actual bad writing without sounding like a buthurt fanboy is just about impossible. I know I tune out when I hear someone say "bad writing"

Bad writing is mostly now used to mean "I didn't like it but want to sound like my view is calm and objective rather than completely subjective so I'll use this generic phrase with no actual evidence to back it up". Or it means "it has women and non-white people in it"

And I would have preferred Bones to spend the majority of the film in his disco gear stubbornly refusing to shave or wear a uniform because he didn't want to come back into space. I read somewhere he was actually meant to have been picked up from a farm. A disco farm apparently

You know he was picked up from absolutely rocking a retro 1970s style disco club. We never saw him doing his Saturday night fever bit and that is a tragedy.
