Learning to read in Finnish has made my brain rebel against English spelling: I just wrote "fase" in a text. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish...

Old photos of basketball games and boxing matches often have a pleasing hazy blue background that modern photos lack. “The blue haze that adds such a wonderful ambience to the arena is caused by cigarette smoke.” [petapixel.com]

The point is that Bluesky R0>1, X/Twitter R0<1, and we know how that ends up.

I am unfollowing people at the other place if they are at all active here. Don’t be offended! It’s to incentivise me to interact with you only here.

A week ago, US election modelers were all over the place: Harris' chances given from a low of 40% (Silver) to a high of 61% (FiveThirtyEight). Today they are within 2 percentage points: 52.9% (DataDiary) to 55.0% (DDHQ). Live updates and reviews here. paulmainwood.substack.com/p/the-us-ele...

“At last… Another’s heartbeat” by Marcellus Williams

The silhouettes of their bond visible still at the last glow of the sun
They experience each other in the life of the night, as it begins to stir
Standing there in silence holding hands
no rush to go back inside
There is so much beauty and comfort in being in love and just being…
—almost sounds of buzzing
chirps
crickets
The pleasant but irregular blowing of the wind
fireflies dancing in step with the light of the moon how strange it is to become aware of another’s heartbeat but forget one’s own –
finally love.

Keskikokoinen kahvi kiitos (a medium coffee please) is delightfully alliterative.

Such a good idea! Today, Oxford Street is to be avoided at all costs if you are on foot in that part of London. Heaving crowds on both pavements with poor flow, penned in by the roadway. This could be transformational -- it's quintessentially a pedestrian zone, so send the buses and taxis around.
