Marissa J. Lang writes a tender story about the friends who gathered here on July 19, 1974. What were they doing having breakfast and drinking champagne on the National Mall? How could it happen? Gift link.

This photo on the National Mall captivated the country decades ago. The real story behind it remained a mystery ā€” until now.

In 1974, a group of friends met the unthinkable with a lavish celebration. The real story behind a photo that captured the moment remained a mystery until now.

What a very sad life they lead to not know brilliance and amazing when they see it. It was an unbelievably horrific thing they said, but they are the ones who should be pitiedā€”they do not see beauty. I hope you can rest and let it fade from your memory. They do not deserve to live rent free.

Seattle/Washington State Friends! My mother has agreed to move in with my sister if, and only if, we can find safe housing for her dogs. My sister is deathly allergic and I'm out of the country. Anyone looking for a hiking buddy? #Dogs#Seattle#PNW

Two brown, black, and white medium-sized dogs with long fur on a trail overlooking the Rocky Mountains.
A bright-eyed puppy with brown eyes, mostly black long fur, some white on her nose, and touches of golden brown. She looks very excited to see you.

Nachos are named for Ignacio Anaya, the maƮtre d'hotel at the Victory Club in Piedras Negras, across the Texas border from Eagle Pass, TX. 1943: US Army wives, tired from shopping, asked him to whip up a snack. He covered tostados with Wisconsin cheddar, stuck under a broiler & added jalapeƱos.

This is a headshot of Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya, the inventor of nachos. He wears a suit, has salt and pepper hair, a slight mustache, and a blocky head with prominent ears.

"The person who took the photo is unknown, however Ignacio Anaya was the person who purchased it. Luis Ignacio Anaya inherited it after his grandfather's death. - This files came from Luis Ignacio Anaya, the grandson of Ignacio Anaya. He is the owner of the file and gives Wikimedia permission to use it."

I was curious if anyone would be reckless enough to put an infused garlic recipe online and it turns out lots of people are. That's an excellent way to get botulism. If you wanna do it safely Penn State has guidelines (you have to acidify the garlic) extension.psu.edu/how-to-safel...

A method of preparing a select list of fresh herbs or garlic has been tested that will allow the home food preserver to safely prepare infused oils for long term shelf storage.
