If we did away with grades, we’d also eliminate the massive markets for proctoring, learning management systems, plagiarism detection, and more. The insidious culture of grades is propping up a multibillion dollar surveillance edtech market. Ungrading means working to dismantle that entire system.

And how would that actually happen? How would that work? I wholeheartedly agree that there needs to be a major change in the system (and the perfect time for that would have been during/right after COVID), but how could we even begin to do that?

I’m all ears here. But in my experience the students are irrevocably brainwashed.
