Because when no one understands *why* the world is the way it is, it's very easy for Donald Trump to get on stage and tell voters all about those icky, scary Muslims and how he'll protect us from them.
This is exactly why we should oppose the selective teaching of history, and exactly why the far right fights so hard to whitewash it.
Does that justify 9/11? No. But it also doesn't justify tens of thousands dead in Palestine and Afghanistan, either.
(I'm okay. It's more the "my brain is running a billion miles an hour and accomplishing absolutely nothing" sort of day.)
This is where state-sanctioned hatred always leads.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you go in front of millions of people and deliberately stoke anger and prejudice toward a group of human beings, and one of your followers commits a violent act against those human beings... You. Are. Culpable.
Real talk, though: even if this WAS true, don't you think the bigger question would be "why have we allowed a fellow human being to become hungry and desperate enough to eat a damn cat?"
