As a teacher, one thing I miss about London is the free transport for school trips. Travelling around London for enrichment was completely free but back up north we have to rely on coach and minibus companies which cost a small fortune. Hopefully this is something we can change 👀
This alone shows why we have division in our education system
Absolutely scandalous... National Express scooped up the only coach company left on this part if the South Coast after Covid, and the prices followed .. 800 - 1k for a trip now
I was quoted £4000 to take a group of students (2 coaches) from Lincoln to London for the day. The cost is prohibitive for schools and parents
So many ‘enrichment’ or extended day things are way easier in cities than towns/rural settings, and that city bonus is massively increased in London
Recently got quoted just shy of £1k to go from Manchester to Drax 😬
Great point. Surely other cities could offer off-peak public transport for free to school groups too. Looks like Birmingham do discounted day passes but googling didn’t show anything in Manchester or Leeds.
Talking about school trips on #ChatPhysics this Thursday. Please come and share your thoughts & ideas.
It’s so expensive! £400 coach cost for a school trip is not unusual.
