Huh, I just discovered that Bill Watterson's early prototype of Calvin and Hobbes was called Marvin and Hobbes, and 'Marvin' had a bowl haircut. And his parents looked ancient.

My headcanon is that Marvin was Calvin's father, and he handed Hobbes down to his son when Hobbes stopped talking to him.

Considering his excellent work with expressions it would've been rough covering the eyes like that.
