So difficult for decentralized projects to optimize for signup conversion bc of this pattern. I imagine bsky could be the default server and then, since you can transfer accounts, you could say "looks like your friends are on <server>, want to transfer?"
Like I imagine that a common experience is "oh, XYZ person left Twitter. How do I follow? Signups are closed / invite-only for <their instance>? Huh?" Then maybe the more conscientious ppl google "mastodon servers" and trudge through more weirdness
