I'm not saying that the New Deal coalition wasn't diverse. I'm saying that the Dems having consistent house majorities was because of the marginal impact of southern whites. We basically had 20% of the house on lock and fought with the GOP over the other 80%
When you have 20% of the house on lock and are running neck and neck over the other 80%, of course you're always going to have a majority.
Southern whites were already democrats, but the Dems hadn’t done well since 1900. The new deal secured long term majorities because it added new constituencies to the democratic coalition.
