I think the particular problem here is that his art is so at odds with what's emerging. Other artists in the same position haven't shown such distinctive moral positions. Actually, that makes it far worse, it's a betrayal and that generates complex reactions. I've cancelled a purchase.
I think it’s more that he often described such behaviour in his art, and then he called it out. He criticised it. He knew it was bad, he knew it was intolerable and unforgivable. He knew. And in private, he carried on doing it.
But I'm really not interested in hearing from men whose only response to hearing of a horrific series of sexual assaults is to say that all that matters to them is that they enjoy their reading materials. That's what I'm talking about.
