Here’s a new GOP effort to thwart local autonomy. They’re denying Krasner jurisdiction over crimes within 500 yards of SEPTA property. Basically all of Philly is within 509 yards of property owned by the transit authority. The autocraticness is relentless. Utterly relentless.
But important to add that this depended on a former-AG Dem governor w presidential aspirations signing it into law to look “tough on crime.” Even tho, as I keep having to point out, the districts that vote for reformers have THE HIGHEST crime rates. VICTIMIZED communities vote FOR the reformers.
Is there a veto-proof majority in the PA senate? I can't see Shapiro signing off on this.
And that fucking numpty signed this into law?
Don’t dems now have a trifecta? This has no chance of passing
Is there any chance of this being overturned by the courts? This is bullshit.
Do you know if anyone's done an analysis with the parcel maps? I don't know if bus stops etc. would show or could be accessed as easements.
Serious question: who is supposed to have jurisdiction if not the DA
Thats Mississippi-level efforts to punish Black Democrats. apnews.com/article/miss...
Constitutional rights are at the center of a legal fight over a state-run court in part of Mississippi’s majority-Black capital city of Jackson.
Is there something about SEPTA properties and his past, or is it just something that would pretty much make him powerless?
You don't have to be a fan of Krasner (and i am not) to realize this bonkers
