This was the 4th time I’ve run this scenario and 6th run of Cosmic Dark. I also got to playtest this scenario, which was a lot of fun. I’ve gotten the piecemeal releases of the game and am waiting for the full release.
If the Change die is higher than their score, it goes up. At 6, they’re out, but at a score of 3, they can physically remove evidence or erase their memory to lower their score) They also roll the Change die when their character is harmed physically or psychologically shaken.
When a character rolls for something related to their specialty, they get to add a second d6. And they have the option of risking body or mind and add the Change die as well. The highest die is the result. If the Change die was the highest, they compare it to their Change score, which starts at 1.
As for the mechanics, players roll a d6 to investigate the world. How much they learn depends on the roll. 4 is full knowledge. 5 adds a record from the company database. 6 adds an anomaly. Records and anomalies lead to uncovering the cosmic horror.
Characters are developed in game, each with a role such as medical officer or mining engineer. They’re developed in play, first using quick flash back scenes after the scenario begins.
