Great video! Now I can't help but wonder how much of the freedom I look for in video games is actually in the movement itself and not the level design/philosophy. Guess I'll have to play Demon Turf to find out
I get the intent but calling “expressive platformers” their own genre feels really backwards in the same video arguing that linear and sandbox games are not different genres. As pointed out in the video games can range from different levels of expressiveness regardless of linearity or openness.

Nice video Jon! I’m also always thinking about the movement potential in 3D platformers. I love that more games are adding complex, intricate movement options for players that want to master the movement. Mario odyssey definitely opened my eyes to this
