Rashid Khalidi’s next book will be about Ireland as a laboratory for Palestine. “It is astonishing how personnel and counter-insurgency techniques, like torture, assassination, find their roots with the British in Ireland.” www.theguardian.com/world/ng-int...

Oh hey, he wrote the Hundred Year's War on Palestine. Great read that went in depth into the various stages of Palestine's occupation and resistance. Excited for this next one.

See also: Kosovo, where Serbia spent decades sponsoring paramilitary attacks and settler encroachment while even polite society agreed the Albanian Muslims were a bunch of animals who should eventually be driven out and everyone ignored them because post-WWII Europeans wouldn't really do that, right

Looking forward to this. I have a student who is doing a comparative politics project in Irish politics and the American civil rights movement and had no idea there were so many links, interpersonally, philosophically& politically. I’m excited for more aspects of this comparative history to be told.

100%. England learned to be monstrous colonizers in Wales and Ireland, and to a lesser degree Scotland. That's why *to this day* we still have stereotypes of the Irish and the Scots (but not the Welsh bc people who aren't from there barely know the Welsh exist bc ENGLAND COLONIZED THEM SO EARLY).
