Agreed. In public parlance “algorithm” now has very negative connotations. Probably kind of similar to how “chemical” has a negative connotation (ex: “ew, don’t drink that, it has all kinds of chemicals in it!”), despite the term actually applying to many things both good and bad.

I have actually done it a handful of times! It is rare though.
I absolutely hate these as well. Many browsers have a “Reader Mode” (usually a 📄-esque icon accessible in the url bar for high-text sites). It strips out a bunch of the flashy obnoxious stuff and preserves text + static images. Keep plotting revenge by all means though.
