Gotta love that an attempt to prevent small states from being ignored leads to ignoring lots of states (big and small) because they’re staunchly on one side or the other.

That wasn't the intent. The EC was established to, in combination with the 3/5 rule, give the slave states disproportionate power so that they'd agree to the Constitution.
