BSky Brits! I'm working on a piece about councils selling off public assets to raise cash. Or indeed, out of ideological zealotry. Have you spotted anything egregious/concerning on this front near you recently?
What a great subject...very deep and very dirty. Most interesting is where they then have to rent them back.
Not council as such, but related to the sale of public land. East Lindsey DC sold off its council housing in the late 90s, with a lot of small pockets of public land attached. These green spaces are gradually being sold off or redeveloped, leading to a loss of public amenity space.
Babergh District Council sold the council offices and moved out to Ipswich. The entire site including the council chamber is being redeveloped as a retirement community.
Locally, pit towns and villages are having lands previously owned by minersâ welfare organisations sold off. I donât have Facebook, so canât read all of it, but this is still active and you can see still angers people. m.facebook.com/groups/97490...

Cornwall Airport Newquay Estate springs to mind
Not sure how closely it fits your brief; Wigan council refused to allow any access to the community centre on a deprived estate even when the need was clear (covid era food distribution). They're now building houses where it used to be with no community provision in the plan.
