I just chatted with the Editor-in-Chief of the Kansas Reflector. Story coming on www.thehandbasket.co
A good piece on how, despite all the talk on consuming responsibly etc., consumers flock to Shein like there's no tomorrow. Particularly young folks in this case. You'll e.g. learn what the "Shein haul" is.
The fast fashion firm’s dubious ethical record doesn’t get in the way of a ‘haul’ or an IPO
Our institutions really aren't wired to deliver us what we need when a harmful, wasteful, destructive business like Shein is catnip to investors.
Fast-fashion group is seeking Chinese approval for IPO in New York or London
Today I've learned there's a video game where you drive a bus from Tucson to Las Vegas. It takes 8h. Just driving straight, nothing else to do. The original game is from the 90s, but there is nowadays a polished-up VR version too.
The drive from Tucson, Arizona, to Las Vegas, Nevada, takes around eight hours when travelling in a vehicle whose top speed is forty-five…
Thanks for the heads up. I thought this is an issue with many potential layers. Easy to imagine lobbing connections at least. I'll look around a bit.
I confess I didn't really properly know about this. Vegetables are losing nutrients due to climate change (it's implied it is also a monoculture issue). And the figures aren't small.
A process called biofortification puts nutrients directly into seeds and could reduce global hunger, but it’s not a magic bullet
Awesome headline, and I remember that day well. Especially how bitter Craig Bellamy was, hahah. Complained how Jonatan Johansson isn't good enough to score goals - even though Johansson's best EPL tally is better than Bellamy's.
Revisiting the day Finland great Jari Litmanen walked Wales ragged – and Craig Bellamy incurred the wrath of a nation.
Thing about the US is every so often you'll a headline that says something like "Making Sausage Out of Children Now Prohibited" and it's like yes I guess thats good wait how was it legal till now what is actually happening here
Breaking news: The United States bans most common form of cancer-causing asbestos, ending new uses of a deadly mineral after 30 years of attempts.
Environmental Protection Agency bans chrysotile asbestos, the only form of the cancer-causing mineral that the U.S. still imports and uses in new products.
I occasionally translate (for my friends) the brilliant, wonky Finnish comic strip Fok_it. Here's one I shared a few years back, that still gets a chuckle out of me.
