A good piece on how, despite all the talk on consuming responsibly etc., consumers flock to Shein like there's no tomorrow. Particularly young folks in this case. You'll e.g. learn what the "Shein haul" is.

Jeremy Hunt and Gen Z are clearly of a mind on Shein. They’d rather skirt the issues | Catherine Bennett

The fast fashion firm’s dubious ethical record doesn’t get in the way of a ‘haul’ or an IPO

Our institutions really aren't wired to deliver us what we need when a harmful, wasteful, destructive business like Shein is catnip to investors.

Today I've learned there's a video game where you drive a bus from Tucson to Las Vegas. It takes 8h. Just driving straight, nothing else to do. The original game is from the 90s, but there is nowadays a polished-up VR version too.

THE WORST VIDEO GAME EVER MADE?

The drive from Tucson, Arizona, to Las Vegas, Nevada, takes around eight hours when travelling in a vehicle whose top speed is forty-five…

I confess I didn't really properly know about this. Vegetables are losing nutrients due to climate change (it's implied it is also a monoculture issue). And the figures aren't small.

Vegetables are losing their nutrients. Can the decline be reversed?

A process called biofortification puts nutrients directly into seeds and could reduce global hunger, but it’s not a magic bullet

Awesome headline, and I remember that day well. Especially how bitter Craig Bellamy was, hahah. Complained how Jonatan Johansson isn't good enough to score goals - even though Johansson's best EPL tally is better than Bellamy's.

I occasionally translate (for my friends) the brilliant, wonky Finnish comic strip Fok_it. Here's one I shared a few years back, that still gets a chuckle out of me.

Despite some last-minute hurdles and watering down, CSDDD (the directive requiring companies to act on sustainability issues) has been approved by EU member states. Looks like we'll get the directive after all. A huge step for sustainability governance.

After weeks of uncertainty, new EU rules on sustainable supply chains seem likely to pass into law.
