People who say of Nazis “deal with bad ideas is by defeating them in the marketplace of ideas” are smuggling in the notion that Nazi ideas have not already been defeated on the merits, and are still valid and worthy to consider, or that Nazi "ideas" involve bloodless debate.

this, this, a zillion times this. Do Nazi ideas have to be defeated on the merits by every single successive generation, or by every single pair of eyeballs that might read a website??? The ideas themselves haven't changed one bit. They are every bit as murderous as they ever were.

I keep hearing people ask "who pissed in your cornflakes" with the implication it's a bad thing, but have we demonstrated that in the marketplace of ideas? Maybe if we just give it a chance at redemption, we'd see that pissy cereal has positive qualities.
