I had an interesting exchange with my UK friend and her husband today. Me: ...so that cake is like a quickbread. Her: No, it doesn't have any yeast. Me: Quickbread doesn't have yeast? Her: *looking at me puzzled* Her husband, to her, over my head: Darling, it's some kind of Americanism.
