So someone asked me to source the proof that this is AI, and aside from the fact that they are now giving “synonyms” that no human would use, here’s the info about them being acquired by IXL this April, a company that has gone AI-heavy in other endeavors. marketbrief.edweek.org/strategy-ope...

This is your reminder that thesaurus dot com is (almost certainly) using AI to generate thesaurus entries, and you should, if you can, use Merriam Webster to avoid accidentally destroying the planet via the fuckery machine.

In 1953, a group of librarians associated with the American Library Association wrote a statement protesting book bans called "The Freedom to Read." It sounds like it could have been written yesterday. You can read the full statement here: www.ala.org/advocacy/int...

The freedom to read is essential to our democracy.
It is under attack. Private groups and public authorities
in various parts of the country are working to remove
books from sale, to censor textbooks, to label
"controversial" books, to distribute lists of "objectionable"
books or authors, and to purge libraries. These
actions apparently rise from a view that our national
tradition of free expression is no longer valid; that
censorship and suppression are needed to avoid the
subversion of politics and the corruption of morals.
