Today's TWILT is the book Palaces For the People by Eric Klinenberg. It focuses on how infrastructure can be used to promote social equality. I was especially interesting in it because I work for a library and am always looking for ways to remove barriers to the access of knowledge.

Today What I Learned Was the concept of Ruinous Empathy (what a lovely phrase!) as it fits into a care matix. Ruinous Empathy is what happens when you care personally about something or someone but do not engage or challenge it/them directly. It leads to organizational stagnation.
I am so sorry to hear that. I know that dread as well and I hope it is something that can be cleared up with a minimum of complications.

Today over lunch, as I often do, I went down a wiki rabbithole. My subject of inquiry was the humble huckleberry which led me to the New Thing What I Learned Today. My NTWILT is the expression "a huckleberry over my persimmon" which means either just outside your ability or just a little bit better
I will concede the point regarding privilege and it's something I should remind myself of more often to temper my opinion. I think, even more broadly, everyone can be curious about *something* and even if that desire is thwarted by circumstance, it is sad when even that is not present.
Going to give this site a try. I enjoyed following the people I followed on the bird site. They opened up new worlds for me, and brought enthusiasm and joy to the things they were passionate about. I hope to some day be able to provide the same.
