I think it's time we killed the idea of "guilty pleasure" media. I can like whatever the fuck movie I want even if every critic on earth loathed it. Bad is subjective and even when it's objectively cheap/weird/poorly made I don't need to feel guilty about shit I enjoy, fuck all the way off.

Eh, there are objectively bad films. Doesn't mean one can't enjoy it though - Some great films are great because they are just... So badly done. No guilty pleasures involved with that, it's like watching a pro athlete blooper reel

I have to use that for the “fans” who shit all over the Star Wars, Marvel, and DC movies and shows that I love.

For me, a 'guilty pleasure' is 'trashy.' Like, enjoying cheap wine as a sommelier type situation. It's not 'wrong' to like cheap wine, but sometimes things are self-indulgent and trashy and you enjoy them, but you're not gonna brag about it.

Yeah but this implies guilt is an inappropriate response though. Sometimes guilt is good. Sometimes the cringe is part of the joy. And part of that guilt helps us learn how to make better things. Besides, if someone likes Sword Art Online without guilt? ...I worry for their personality.

I mean, to be fair, I think the idea of "I like this in spite of the critics saying it's shit" is still a valid one. Just not one you should feel guilty about
