In a climate crisis, we also need to stop making things worse by opening new fossil fuel projects. Add your name to support the call to ban new oil and gas in Victoria's oceans: greens.org.au/vic/campaign...

Raising the age to 12 is an important step forward, but there’s still so much to do. Labor may have lost their nerve and given up on further reforms, but the Greens haven’t. We will keep pushing to raise the age to 14 without exception. Because kids don’t belong behind bars. (4/4)

There were a number of clauses the Greens opposed, including the use of ankle bracelets to monitor children, and 16-17 year olds being sent to adult prisons. We also moved an amendment to raise the age to 14, but Labor and the Liberals teamed up to vote it down. (3/4)

The Greens were able to strengthen the bill by securing amendments that ban the use of spit hoods, and require public reporting on strip searches and greater oversight of isolation used on children in youth detention. (2/4)

We should be following countries that have listened to the evidence and improved community safety, raised the age & invested in programs to keep kids out of prison. Instead, Labor is actually cutting programs that improve community safety and support at-risk young people! (3/3)

We know that locking kids up isn't what's best for them and it doesn’t lead to better community safety - in fact, quite the opposite. (2/3)

To show your support for the right to a safe climate, and urge the government to support this legislation, sign our open letter to the Premier: greens.org.au/vic/campaign... 3/3

That’s why the Greens are introducing a bill to enshrine the right to a safe climate in Victoria’s Charter of Human Rights. This would require the government to consider if new legislation or decisions could make climate change worse, particularly for future generations. 2/3
