Plain language summary: we did cool shit with endometrial (uterine lining) cells showing the endo cells talk to proto-placenta cells but not vice versa. Even though people loooooove to tell science stories about placenta "invasion" as though it controls this whole process! The uterus is bossy!
#harleylab collaboration with @kateclancy.bsky.social 🧪🚨: Tissue engineering models of the decidualized endometrium to study crosstalk between endometrial microvascular complexity & trophoblast outgrowth. Great work by Dr. Zambuto, out now in npj women's health: www.nature.com/articles/s44...
npj Women's Health - Endometrial decidualization status modulates endometrial microvascular complexity and trophoblast outgrowth in gelatin methacryloyl hydrogels
Congrats on the article, Kate. Sounds important.
Very neat! I wonder about how the unidirectional communication relates to the studies showing maternal selection of embryos. So to speak, embryos ought to communicate their status in one way or another. Or maybe it is only "low" quality embryos signalling their status?
