Morning visit from Ian McMillan, to collect an order, buy another book, and sign books. Ian has written the introduction for Under the Changing Skies, a collection of the Guardian Countryside Diary writing from 2018-24. Here is Ian in 'pretending to read a book' pose! #booksky

I always assumed they meant employee NI, given the emphasise on 'no tax on workers' and similar references. I believe those cuts should not have been made in the first place and should be reversed, but it never crossed my mind that any possible commitments not to would apply to employer NI.

Not going to name the podcast, but just started with an advert for a Telegraph podcast with Tomilly saying 'listen to us for common sense views'. Which I know the host definitely does not endorse. On with the show...

Yes, Joe Root's record today deserves recognition. Anything else been happening?

What swung it? Cleverly's pledge for normality? Back-firing games of trying to get him up against Jenrick? I am not a tory, but we need a decent opposition whatever the party and they seem driven to destruction.

Before this vote a concern for members was MPs ditching a candidate they want in the final. Which was assumed to be someone like Badenoch. On recent polling that turned into Cleverly, so naturally MPs have ditched him. The relatively sane option. On the plus side he can go again in 1-2 years time.

I don't think that would have made the slightest difference. Johnson was always going to blow up his own PM-ship, my suspicion is that without Covid to distract from regular politics and life he would have messed up sooner if anything.

I worked in arts eduction 18-25+ years ago, this was being called for then and was so rare. Both main places I worked had elements of core infrastructure funding from different routes and it made such a difference even at a basic level of organisation, planning, etc.

It's #bandcampfriday! Which means I will after work be listening to music from the mountain of email notifications I have, and most likely adding to things already saved in basket to buy. Might post some links on here if I remember and stay awake. It's been a long week/month.
