Perhaps they all do it. There is a red squirrel in our yard that makes the messes. He started with the young cones on the hemlock trees, nipping off the branches, and then moved to the oaks. He must have enough food to feed a squirrel city.

I guess I understand them doing it before the acorns are ready to fall, but the ground is covered now. I almost fell while I was cleaning them up because it’s like walking on ball bearings. We have a lot of chipmunks. Next year is gonna be a banner year, given how many acorns there are!
