Never forget. Hide from wind, run from water. If storm surge is heading your way, your best bet is to evacuate if at all possible because water is the deadliest part of a hurricane.
Hurricane Helene is starting out big and is likely to be in the top 10% size-wise for hurricanes at this latitude. It's sucking up more moisture and heat over the Gulf of Mexico and will cause storm surges and flooding well inland. By @andreatweather.bsky.social 🧪
Hurricane Helene is a large storm set to bring substantial storm surge to the coast of Florida, as well as wind and rain-driven flooding up into Tennessee and South Carolina
Ugh. This is looking nasty
oh. I thought, in the South, the deadliest part of a hurricane was the police afterwards. 😕
I was living in NJ for Tropical Storm Irene, which had limited wind damage but was EXTREMELY wet, and Superstorm Sandy, which people underestimated BECAUSE of Irene. Popular impression hasn’t quite shifted to grasp that the water is increasingly the truly dire part of these storms.
And remember that it isn't *that* the wind is blowing, it's *what* the wind is blowing.
Since we’ve had increasing urban flooding in Finland, every time some folks play around in the water. It can be contaminated, there might be downed power lines etc.
Where's Mar-lago?
The storm surge is going to be HUGE. Latest forecasts are for TWENTY FEET in some places. Map here is from 4pm today.
Ya and this monster is getting huge and has the potential of holding and moving tons of water. This could be a rally bad one.😒
and stay out of the water! it's gross.
