This specific bit in BP's latest scenarios report illustrates @ghgpolicy.org's point quite nicely. It does not matter how many times you repeat "CDR isn't a substitute for mitigation". If you raise the possibility, they'll jump at it as the sole solution, because it lets them sell more for longer
I see parallels with how 'social licence' for biodiversity offsetting was manufactured here. They allowed scientists/academics to identify conditions & say, yes, it can be credible if offsetting conformed with this set of principles. Once accepted as policy, principles were dropped/bastardised
On a related note: who can explain to me why there are seemingly at least some IPCC 1.5C scenarios that feature a 0% change in oil and gas usage between 2019 and 2030??????????????????????? like what is the story there guys
