Intermezzo rules. Beautiful book, brilliant writing, a great exercise in making drama from the “nothing” that happens in between dramatic events, the trauma of the past and the inevitably tempestuous future. Which, thus the title I guess

As a teenager, reading Nabokov’s “Invitation to a Beheading.” Immediately I saw how incredibly daring and powerful good prose and ideas could be in fiction writing.
