never really thought much about the adoption period in these scenarios because most of the framings presumes it’s been navigated without mentioning it and the robots are weirdly cute or empathetic but now I’m pretty certain this is an impossible barrier

I've always assumed that if we got very human-looking robots whose behavior mimicked that of humans in a substantial way, a very significant portion of the population would react with, "Finally, something we can beat with no one giving us shit about it."
