I've been drawing on a 3DS for over a decade and it's so obvious to me that I keep forgetting that people are mindblown by this fact. Ask me anything, I will be happy to reply. #art#digitalart#gaming#painting#digitalpainting#pokemon#fanart

Down to weird opaque difficulty and artificial lengthening of games, except back in the day it would be done because the game wasn't very content dense and also not deemed fun enough to carry its price on its own, so they'd just artificially lengthen it. It's always come down to scalping people haha

To be completely fair, I don't think the general consensus towards bad games was that great in 2002 either lol. Just as much tech hype, and just as many games were overhyped or snubbed for not chasing trends. Lots of people seem to factor chasing the new thing into their opinions unfortunately.

I think both definitions are useful, and there is obviously a lot of interplay between the two (i.e. knowing how you will market is going to inform the game designer's work), but they're definitely just different enough that it can be frustrating sometimes.

Right, I sympathise with frustration over the muddying. I suppose the issue right now is that there is the definition of "game design" as the work done by a game designer vs. "game design" as a more summative term representing all decisions which inform the design of a game.

If it goes into making and releasing the game, it should be considered as relevant to the game's design. How your game will be presented to its audience is important to consider when designing, because you want to avoid incongruity there. Therefore, it becomes an integral part of the design process.
