There's a point at which "it's not bad, what matters is how you use it" stops being a valid defense. If the bad usage is common enough (or the consequences of a few severe enough), the thing in question is functionally a problem even if, technically, the ACTUAL problem is people.
I guess competitive games also tend to be a lot more toxic cuz of the nature of the games. Co-op games or PvE game communities are just nicer in general
