Backwards reverb is cool as hell but not something you usually hear used subtly. (Although, I suppose if it's subtle you're not as likely to recognize it when you do hear it, so there's that). For a striking example, listen to the vocal noise that leads into the verse vox on Tool's "Stinkfist".
Pearl Jam's "Evenflow" came on the other day, and I'd never noticed before how Vedder's vocal is absolutely slathered with backwards reverb.
