Hi new followers! Thought I'd take a second to introduce myself. I’m a Florida-based marine biologist-turned fisheries scientist-turned conservation social scientist, & I study the human side of nature. How did I go from biology to people science? Here are 3 things that explain my science journey:
BlueSkience Alert! 🧪🌍🛰️ NASA's Earth Observatory has a page where you can generate your name (or any word) using Landsat images. Of course, I chose to generate ✨SCIENCE✨ landsat.gsfc.nasa.gov/apps/YourNam...
As we begin a new semester, a reminder for folks scheduling meetings: It can be extremely difficult for parents to make meetings starting at or after 3 PM.
Get in your orders for an awesome nerdy calendar and support science outreach! I just ordered one of the crab 🦀 facts from last year too.
Eight years later, I revisit the tree of life. “Future trees may need to distinguish not only between cultured and uncultured lineages, but between extant and extinct” rdcu.be/dPNpB
Nature Microbiology - The tree of life is a galvanizing image, anchoring biological diversity within a common framework. From a new view in 2016, the tree has continued to grow, and with it, our...
I don't remember exactly how deep, but we were at East Pacific Rise, so probably around 2400 m (1.5 miles).
I was out at sea during Halloween many moons ago and we sent down a pumpkin - came back up unaffected!
Excited to read this one and to share with my microbial ecology class this fall. Reading that these lineages are detected in coastal marine sediments and their relation to eukayotes makes me think of the song 'I come from the water".
