I don't remember exactly how deep, but we were at East Pacific Rise, so probably around 2400 m (1.5 miles).
I was out at sea during Halloween many moons ago and we sent down a pumpkin - came back up unaffected!
I would definitely love to go to the next one! Been working on anaerobes from coral 🪸
I second the blink cameras. Motion detection is sometimes slow to respond, but I've used them to record live too. Got some good audio of barred owls fussing at each other. You can buy bird feeders that hold a blink camera, but focus isn't great close up.
