This nonsense proves what I said in my rant a few days ago. They fucking HATED being called “weird” and they desperately want to get back to being “scary”. Trump voters blow a load when he says this, because they get borrowed power from it. Very strong “my dad can beat up your dad” energy.
Still not sure how "weird" got abandoned. It really resonated with a lot of people who are tired of these freaks.
Appealing to disgust covers both elements of “risibly bizarre and offputting in trivial ways” and “threaten to do gratuitous damage to many undeserving folk with no reason except they get off on it.” Matter of fact, that’d be my ad: “they get off on controlling you. Creepy. Weird. Gross.”
The most important part of “build the wall” wasn’t the wall, it was the “and Mexico will pay for it” part. It’s the dominance fantasy. As in: Dad is going to make those meanies pay for what they did to you!
Ugh. Sickening.
And it’s working, too, which infuriates me. People see this and their brain leaps from “this is a vicious moron who must be crushed” to “we shall soon be powerless at the hands of his death squads”! Not if you don’t, you know, LET HIM WIN.
On top of it, when the campaign started calling Trump and Vance evil they took it as permission to go even worse.'Weird' stopped them in their tracks. 'Evil' just speeds up the process.
Speaking as a Coloradan, we don't want your Nazi goon squads hunting down people of color. We believe in the rule of law and in the US Constitution. Trump will get trounced in Colorado.
