The Guimarota taxon was originally named "Theriosuchus guimarotae", later revised to 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘦𝘵𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘬𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘦. The genus was erected in 2017, based on specimens from the Langenberg quarry.
