I wouldn't use the term "dictatorship," but the risk of descent into Orbanist autocracy is real. Read Kagan on how the incentives and conditions are likely to change if/when Trump wins the nomination and how hard it will be to restrain him in a second term with the GOP fully brought to heel.
robert kagan is…not great, but the overall thrust of this essay — that there is a pretty clear path to outright autocracy — is basically right. and i continue to think that trump’s great advantage is the entrenched american belief that “it can’t happen here.”
